(A Public Living Room) is a weekly gathering for people to come be themselves, without the pressure of a monetary or energy exchange.
We want to use this weekly platform to explore the erosion of public space and practice being in connection to each other, as a form of solidarity and ingenuity that stands against our current isolating epoch. We encourage people to create activations, art works, texts, rituals, or more that can be shared publicly or within the Public Living Room. But again, nothing is forced, and no one will get special treatment… except for Bill.
Bill Walsh created the genesis for this idea. He is the nonagenarian man who has been a caretaker for the Chapel since he was a young man.
The beginning of most nights will feature records from Bill Walsh’s collection, of which is mostly classical and jazz. We encourage people to read, do yoga, lay about, work on a computer, chat, draw, drink tea, and relax. It’s your living room.
The second half the night will stay open for karaoke, improv sets, open mic nights, panel discussions, games, or whatever else the community desires to do. Otherwise, we will keep spinning records, just maybe not Bill’s (he has a bedtime).
We have some pillows, but encourage everyone to prepare for comfort! Bring blankets and pillows. We will provide herbal tea.
Every Monday 6-9. Launching January 8, 2024
